It appears that LG Electronics has some major projects in the pipeline to compete with its rival tech companies, including its fellow South Korean electronics company, Samsung. The project will be reportedly packed with not just one, two, or three lenses of a camera on a handset, but with whopping 16 lenses.
According to LetsGoDigital, LG filed a patent with USPTO for a handset that will come in 16 camera lenses, dubbed as the hexadecimal camera, which was granted on November 20. It is known that the company was one of the first smartphone makers to introduce handsets with dual lenses, starting off its LG Optimus 3D.
Now, the tech giant is taking another step further with its planned 16 camera lenses that will cater those that love smartphone photography. With its curved setup, the lenses can take photos from different angles, and can also replicate movements from a still image.
The patent suggested that the handset can take more information from the images in three different dimensions instead of just two, which can simplify in replacing objects in photos. Both the mirror and the flash will be placed on the rear of the handset separately in an attempt to light up each subject, as well as to make it simpler to take selfies using the rear camera instead of the front-facing camera.
The 16 lenses are positioned within a matrix arrangement as what the patent showed, and the user can choose a specific lens to capture a photo, or even choose numerous lenses. The description also suggested that a second display will possibly be integrated on the back of the handset, although this particular screen isn't shown on the outline that was filed.
An audio output unit is also positioned at the rear of the device, which supports the front speaker to create a stereo sound. But this may not be as important as the 16 lenses if users would pay more attention to photography.
Mobile photography these days has been a trend although it takes a lot of time to edit or filter the images to make them look more stunning and vivid. However, with these 16 camera lenses that LG have planned, photography won't be for professionals any longer, but also for those that love taking photos even without going through workshops.
On the other hand, this is only a patent sketch that LG recently filed, and there is no assurance that this will see the light of day.
