Jackie Chan's 2015 memoir "Never Grow Up" now has an English version, translated by Jeremy Tiang, and hit the U.S. bookshelves. The 64-year-old renowned martial artist honestly revealed his dark side as he recalled his past and saw a young man who rose to fame and enjoyed every minute of it. So here are the three most shocking confessions of an actor who fans didn't know behind the camera.
Drinking And Unprofessionalism
Jackie Chan admitted that he drank every night when he was young that affected his work and professionalism. When his call time started at seven in the morning, he would come at noon wearing dark glasses to hide his puffy eyes and face from a night of drinking spree.
He also confessed that he always drove drunk. Jackie Chan would crash his Porsche in the morning and Mercedes-Benz in the evening because of drunkenness. "All day long, I went around in a haze," he said, per the South China Morning Post.
Hiring Prostitutes
Jackie Chan recalled the time when he would spend all his money on drinking, gambling, and hiring prostitutes. The first time he went to a club, he braved to be a big guy even though he was shy.
The first girl he hired was Number Nine. Jackie Chan didn't know her name but only remembered her as a beautiful woman with a sweet personality. Every time he went there, he would look for Number Nine, and that was how it often went.
Hurting His Kid
Jackie Chan told a story about the argument he and his wife, Joan Lin, went through. When it stopped, he walked out, slammed the door, and met his then producer Leonard Ho.
After Ho gave him some advice, he went back to their house and saw Joan laughing and chatting with her friend. It made him angry. Then Jackie Chan's son, Jaycee, came to him and pointed his fingers on him like he was shooting him to avenge his mother.
To his surprise, Jaycee snatched his keys from his hand and threw it on the floor. When Jackie Chan was about to pick it up, the kid kicked it away. "I was furious," he admitted. "I picked him up with one hand and flung him across the room, and he crashed into the sofa."
IndieWire reported that Jackie Chan's move scared his kid and wife. He, too, felt "very regretful" of what he did. However, he confessed that children these days need to be hit as they often misbehave.
