Ariana Grande has recently smashed YouTube with the official music video of her new single 'Thank U, Next.' With over 88 million views at present, the video features films such as "Mean Girls," "Legally Blonde," "Bring It On," and "13 Going On 30".
With the success of her recent single, Grande fans can't help but to ask why Lindsay Lohan, the original actress who portrayed the iconic character of Cady Heron, wasn't asked to portray the same role unlike Jonathan Bennett, who portrayed the role of Aaron Samuels, and "other army pants and flip flops" actress.
Through an interview conducted by Cosmopolitan with the video director Hannah Lux Davis, the director shared the reason why Lindsay has not been included in Grande's new official music video.
"We wanted to have her friends be the roles of her, of the plastics," Davis shared through the interview. Grande never want anyone to have the role aside from her best pals. She wanted Alexa Luria to portray the role of Karen Smith, the blonde girly psychic of the group, Courtney Chipolone for the role of Gretchen Wieners, the daughter of the inventor of the Toaster Strudel, and Liz Gillies to portray Cady, the teenager who's from Africa and was destined to destroy the 'Queen Bee', Regina George.
The director further exclaimed that the decision was solely based on the "Focus" singer's desire to have an amazing and great time with her friends while doing the video. It is also a great opportunity for other people to see how fun they are with each other.
"She was really adamant about her friends being so prominent in the video. I feel like it's really cool because she had said, you know, these are the girls that have been by her side during these hard times and she is so excited to have this moment with them," the director also added.
Meanwhile, the original Cady actress Lindsay Lohan showed how grateful she was and also the other "Mean Girls" casts, which includes Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried, for featuring their movie in her recent music video, as posted by Teen Vogue. Through her Instagram account, Lohan said, "@arianagrande I love #thankyounext video! All of the original Mean Girls are very flattered 'tis the season."
Before the music video was posted on YouTube, Lindsay Lohan even showed her support for the video specifically for Gillie's role. On her IG account, she posted, "ain't nobody Lindsay Lohan like the real Lindsay Lohan. But so flattered by @arianagrande loving #MeanGirls so much!"
