The events in the past seasons will lead up to the final reveal in Game of Thrones Season 8 of the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Fans will know if a Lannister or a Targaryen will rule Westeros and bets are high that Tyrion ends up claiming the throne.

The past seasons of Game of Thrones have mostly been about finding the king or queen to rule Westeros. Cersei Lannister had made it her mission to remain seated on the Iron Throne for as long as she is alive. Daenerys Targaryen, on the other hand, had sacrificed so much in her bid to win back Westeros and bring honor back to the Targaryen name.

Then there is that Season 7 finale shocker that revealed that none of these women are the rightful heir to the throne. Instead, Jon Snow, who everyone else believes as the bastard son of Eddard Stark, is a Targaryen himself. He is next in line to the Iron Throne as he is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.

The thing is Jon Snow does not have dreams of grandeur. He said it so himself that he has no wish to be king even when he was chosen as the new King of the North. That leaves Daenerys and Cersei vying for the crown.

However, what these two women do not know is that Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) has been working the cards in his favor for the past seasons. He is not Daenerys' "Hand" for nothing. The events in the past seasons have been laying the groundwork for him to become king.

Moreover, Tyrion may be unlucky in love, but he sure is gifted with the skillsets to become a great king. He is a smart politician, an eloquent speaker, a tactical thinker, cunning, and fair-minded, contrary to Daenerys who is quick to impose punishments and leave people dead in her wake.

The past seasons have also shown signs that prove he is fit to be the king of Westeros in Game of Thrones Season 8. He brought peace to Kings Landing when he served as the Hand of the king in Season 2. He inspires loyalty, and he proved that he could be a warrior when he took charge during the Battle of Blackwater Bay.

Then there is the theory that he is a Targaryen and not a Lannister. He was able to tame Daenerys' dragons in the dungeon in Season 6, which is telling of his lineage. Fans believe that he is the Mad King's son, which would explain Tywin's hatred for him. All these signs point to Tyrion likely ending up as the king of Westeros in Game of Thrones Season 8.
