With the emergence of different beauty trends today, women tend to pack their drawers with various beauty products from cleanser, toner, moisturizer, to serum, and the list goes on. But when can you say enough is enough? There is a chance your skin can be over moisturized, so you need to cut-off your beauty regimen and practice Korea's new trend - the skip-care.
Dermatology & Celebrity Injector Nurse Alice Jenkins said women tend to over-moisturize their skin. Although the concern is more about using incorrect products, only 15 percent of people need to use moisturizer daily that belongs to the group that has "genetically dry skin" that doesn't work in the right way.
"It's a common misconception that the more moisturizer you use, the more effective it will be," Jenkins said, per Glamour UK. On the average, the skin can only absorb 60 percent of what is put on it. Anything that exceeds the number will only stay on the surface that can clog up the pores, suffocate the skin, affect its barrier, and how it works.
Although it is fine to clean your face twice a day, once every morning and evening, it can be harmful if you have sensitive skin. Putting a lot of "heavy and rich textures" on your face can also make your skin "lazy and complacent."
Jenkins added overusing products like moisturizer can make your skin problems worse. Aside from making your skin dependent on additional hydration, it can result in sebum's overproduction that causes inflammation, clogged pores, redness, flaking, pigmentation, and pimples.
So what you can do to change your beauty routine, and make it simple? Try the new Korean beauty trend, skip-care. True to its name, all you have to do is skip using different products on your skin, and try the beauty detox.
According to Elle, skip-care is like Marie Kondo only it is for your skin. "Skip-care is a skincare method that allows you to identify the essential ingredients for your skin and avoid the use of unnecessary products for a simpler, yet proper, skincare routine," the Korean brand AmorePacific explained.
You can cut back from your "go-to products" and stick to those that work on your skin. With different skincare products and categories emerging today, you have to think what your skin needs.
So instead of buying different products for hydration, exfoliation, and detoxification, among others, Skip-Care means you have to find a product that covers almost everything that your skin needs and has multiple benefits. It means you can have fewer products with the same amount of benefits. Aside from giving your skin a chance to breathe, it is also economical.
