People all over the world have heard Korea's 10-step skincare routine. Many women love to try it as the Korean's glass skin speaks for itself. But, does putting product over products on your skin is necessary to obtain the skin you have been dreaming?
"It may sound extensive, but most Korean women use an eight and 10-step skincare routine each and every day to help keep their skin looking healthy and beautiful," Vicky Lee Korean beauty and lifestyle blogger of Sorabelle.com said, per Cosmopolitan. The Korean 10-step skincare needs a lot of effort compared to the usual skincare routine. However, their work never goes unnoticed as Korean women are known to have the best skin all over the world.
There are different routines in the morning and the evening. For the morning, it is only eight-step skincare, starting with washing your face and then putting toner, essence, ampoule, serum, eye cream, moisturizer, and sunscreen. For the evening, it will be 10-step composed of oil-based cleanser, double-cleansing, exfoliate, toner, essence, ampoule, serum, sheet mask, eye cream, and moisturizer.
As a lot of women are following the Korean 10-step skincare routine, Dr. Jennifer Chwalek, a board-certified dermatologist at Union Square Laser Dermatology in New York City, revealed there are indeed plenty of people that love doing their skincare regimens. "I think part of this whole trend of wanting to do multi-step skin care comes from a real need or desire in our society to do more self-care," she told HuffPost.
Dr. Anna Guanche, a board-certified dermatologist and celebrity beauty expert, added that the Korean 10-step skincare would be "optimal" if all its ingredients are "compatible, stay active on the skin when layered, penetrate, and applied consistently." However, the question will be if it is all compatible when each product's elements interact with each other.
Chwalek explained that the study of each beauty product's effect is on an individual basis. So, its efficacy when used on a layered beauty routine is unknown. When you use multiple layers of products on your skin, you are not sure if the active ingredients of each product are deeply penetrating as it should give you the best results.
Other products' active ingredients can also get deactivated by other elements. It can also affect the pH level that the active ingredient works. Putting too many products on your skin can irritate. It will also be hard for you to tell which of each product's ingredients cause the irritant. So if you still want to use all the products you have, Dr. Angela Lamb, director of the Westside Mount Sinai Dermatology Faculty Practice in New York City, suggested you could use them alternately.
