Beijing's newest express line which will connect the city's new airport will hold its first test operation in September. The new express line will link the southern part of Beijing to the city's new airport which is slated to open also in September. Once operational the new express line will hold the title as the fastest intra-city rail transit system in China.
The new express train like has a top speed of 160kph making it the fastest train in the country. The new express train will also connect Beijing directly to the city of Tianjin which is about 120 kilometers east of the capital. With this new express train, travel time from Beijing to Tianjin will be greatly reduced to just a 36-minute ride.
According to Xinhua, a new railway is also under consideration and is being planned to connect Terminal 3 of the Tianjin Binhai International Airport with the Beijing-Shanghai railway which is one of the busiest train lines in China.
The Beijing Daxing International Airport is slated to open its doors in September. Hailed as one of the high-end new airports in the country, the Daixing Airport is connected not only to the country's fastest express line but also to a huge subway system.
According to government records, the first phase of the subway system is already on its final stages of construction. Unlike the express line that traverses hundreds of kilometers, the subway system has a total length of just 41.36 kilometers and will only run through the city of Beijing.
The new subway line will also be integrated into Beijing's existing subway system. Once completed, the subway system will have three stations, this is according to the Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office.
The Daixing International Airport was constructed in order to ease traffic and congestion at the Beijing Capital International Airport which is seen by many as one of the busiest airports in the country. Once fully complete, the new Beijing airport can essentially rival those of other international destinations.
The new international airport is expected to handle at least 45 million passengers annually by 2021. This figure is expected to improve to 72 million by 2025 once all facilities and features of the airport are fully implemented.
In a statement, Tianjin Municipal Transportation Commission deputy director Wu Bingjun said, "The year 2019 will see a great leap forward in the integration of the transport network in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region."
