Fans of "The Sims 4" simulation game have been waiting for details regarding the possible release date of a new "Sims" title, "The Sims 5." Based on a report, however, the new game might come later than fans expected.
According to a report from Tech News Watch, The Sims 4 has brought in over $1 billion from the time the title was launched in 2014. In addition, the game itself saw millions of unique players added to the community in 2018 alone. These details simply conclude that despite losing the hype it caused at launch, The Sims 4 has become a profitable venture.
Because of this, the rumored sequel, Sims 5, might see a later release, if ever there is. Sims 4 has received several patches and expansion packs over time, and these additions have been successful in generating player interest in the game. EA wants to take advantage of this and has made it clear in a financial report released to the public.
According to the financial report, EA and the game devs recognized how Sims 4 thrived using live services -- namely the constant updates and additions to the game. They then said they are planning on introducing at least 20 new content drops and expansion packs to Sims titles, all in the fiscal year 2020.
Tech New Watch notes that FY 2020 begins in April 2019 and ends in March 2020. This means that there will be official info regarding the rumored sequel. Until March 2020 ends, everything that can be found on the internet regarding "details" about The Sims 5 will be a rumor, and not an official announcement unless otherwise stated.
If EA decides to work on Sims 5, perhaps the gaming community will be treated to a teaser this year during E3. If ever that happens, The Sims fans can then hope to see a release later next year, or even later.
A few expectations
While it's unlikely that EA would be working on The Sims 5 soon, a few things can be expected to happen to the game given the advancement of technology and the constant updates the current title receives every now and then, The Gamer noted.
For example, players can expect The Sims 5 to feature a bigger world than what's available now. Many games have adopted the open world design, and The Sims 5 could use that to its advantage.
The Sims 5 can also be expected to feature better graphics and wider customization options. Today's video game technology is better than it was years ago, which means the game devs might be able to produce a better, more visually appealing game experience in the future.
