The final season of Veep might be three episodes short than its usual run but star Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Selina Meyer) is nevertheless quite happy with the show's conclusion. The cast completed filming Veep season 7 in late 2018 and Louis-Dreyfus said that the ending caught her by surprise.

Louis-Dreyfus hinted to TV Guide that Veep season 7 will have with an unpredictable ending. The actress also clued in that there might be some tears but whether these are happy tears or sad tears is up for the viewers to find out.

Veep season 7 showrunner David Mandel also won't elaborate on what the actress meant. Mandel kept mum on whether Meyer is running for the presidency again or if she'll finally give up on politics altogether.

Viewers may recall that when Veep season 6 closed, Meyer told her staff she's giving the presidency another shot. But none of her people seemed enthusiastic about it especially after she failed as the commander-in-chief.

Suffice to say, however, Mendel and the writers of the series believe they've got the finale right. "I think it's the right ending for America," the showrunner said.

HBO confirmed that Veep season will begin its final run on March 31, as per TV Line. This will be the shortest season since it will only have seven episodes, compared to its usual 10.

Filming for the series' latest offering met a slight delay after Louis-Dreyfus revealed she needed to have chemotherapy after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis in 2017. At that time, the show was just wrapping its sixth season. Eventually, HBO announced that Veep has been renewed for its seventh and final season.

Louis-Dreyfus shared to Entertainment Weekly that she had mixed feelings of joy and grief about filming Veep season 7. She admitted that she had a hard time saying goodbye to the show that gave her an Emmy Best Actress award year after year.  She also said that she had didn't have any thoughts about quitting the show despite her condition but then it was the producers call.

The HBO executives, on the other hand, also said that they would love to keep renewing Veep for more seasons since it's a critical success. However, it was the producers' decision to end the series on a high note with the seventh season.

Veep also stars Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Reid Scott, Gary Cole, Tim Simons, Sam Richardson, Matt Wash, Kevin Dunn, Sarah Sutherland, and Clea DuVall. The show returns on Sunday, March 31, at 10:30 p.m.
