Lethal Weapon has aired an explosive finale for season 3 last Tuesday, Feb. 26, on FOX. The end hinted the likely next steps for Cole (played by Seann William Scott) and Murtaugh (played by Damon Wayans) for Lethal Weapon season 4, but the show's fate still hinges on the network's decision to either renew or cancel the series.

As per Deadline, it looks like Lethal Weapon season 4 will head to South America, specifically Ecuador, where Cole and Murtaugh -- should Wayans decide to continue with the series -- plan to track down the big bad Barnes (played by Mykelti Williamson). It was a good way to wrap up a problematic season, which might be the series finale.

Executive producer (EP) Matt Miller told Entertainment Weekly that they intended the finale of Lethal Weapon season 3 to be a cliffhanger. Though FOX has yet to make a call about the show's fate, Miller said that the final moments of last season was meant to be launching pad for Lethal Weapon season 4.

Miller also said that they have mapped out what Lethal Weapon season 4 looks like in the writers' room. "It will be a bummer if we don't get to tell that story," the executive producer added.

However, it's unclear if that mapping has Wayans' character involved. The actor announced in October that he's leaving Lethal Weapon due to health problems, but the producer said they have worked this out and made adjustments to accommodate Wayans' condition.

As questions about the show's fate on FOX remain unanswered, a network boss did say in February that Lethal Weapon has found its stride and has done well despite its setbacks and cast drama behind the scenes. Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier told the press that the network has been happy with the show's ratings thus far, as per TV LineLethal Weapon's ratings might be down this year compared to the previous seasons, but the numbers are still higher compared to the other dramas currently airing on FOX.

There's a group of fans wishing FOX should just cancel the series. A team carrying a torch for Clayne Crawford (Martin Riggs), who was dropped out of the show after Lethal Weapon season 2, has been campaigning against the series on social media with #LethalFail and #BoycottLethalWeapon.

Miller told MEAWW that the calls for a boycott had not affected the show's future status. Instead, he saw the devotion of the fans as a testament to the show's success because so many viewers have been invested and attached to the characters.
