Insecure, the HBO show that has been gaining a lot of buzz on social media, has been renewed for season 4 last September. The network, however, hasn't confirmed the actual air date for Insecure season 4 despite so many fans eagerly waiting for the new installment.
According to Bustle, Insecure season 4 air date or release could likely be anywhere from July, August or October this year. It's hard to lock down the release since the air dates for the other seasons haven't been following a regular schedule as well.
The first season of the series starring Issa Rae (Issa Dee) premiered on HBO in October 2016. Insecure season 2, on the other hand, went on the air in July 2017 while the third season was released in August 2018.
Meanwhile, Refinery29 predicted that Insecure season 4 will be more fraught with problems and dilemmas. Issa's dating life will be much more complicated especially since it looks like she and her best friend will be dating guys who are roommates, Nathan (played by Kendrick Sampson) and Andrew (played by Alexander Hodge).
In the past, the best friend's dating life and friendship were always separate so this is new territory for them. Will they be double-dating as much or will they be dreading that their relationships are too close for comfort? If one of them ends the relationship with the roommates, will this affect their friendship as well?
The writers hint that Insecure season 4 will be navigating on a messy road. It's going to test the stability of the women's friendship with each other.
Insecure centers on two female best friends in their late '20s who are juggling their friendship, careers and relationships. Issa and Molly (played Yvonne Orji) have known each other since college and have shared experiences as African American women in a world filled with social discrimination.
Also in the show is Jay Ellis, who plays Issa's ex-longtime boyfriend Lawrence Walker. When the couple decided to end their relationship in Insecure season 2, viewers didn't expect Lawrence to be back for season 3. However, Ellis surprised fans when he appeared towards the end of last season. It sparked a greater online petition to bring the actor, and his character, back for good.
Ellis was shocked about the fan protests after Insecure season 2 ended. He told Jimmy Kimmel on his show that his friends would send him clips and videos of the fans asking for his return and it may have worked since he was brought back in for the Insecure season 3 finale. The actor, however, said that he doesn't know if he'll get another chance to appear on Insecure season 4.
