A new report claiming Apple's new AirPods will have fast charging features have surfaced, along with some other rumors and alleged leaks. Read on for more details.
A new leak says that Apple's refreshed wireless earphones, the aptly named AirPods 2, will feature fast charging. The leak, coming from XDA Developer's Max Weinbach, said the new AirPods will go from zero to 100% battery charge in 15 minutes. Weinbach adds that this applies to both the AirPods themselves and their carrying case.
So the Apple news. AirPods wireless charging will happen. It will be VERY fast (0-100 in 15 minutes.) That speed is for the AirPods AND the case. It will probably use Qi charging.

Apple's current AirPods churn out up to 3 hours of use with a 15-minute charge. If the leak is true, the same 15 minutes used to charge the older AirPods will power the new AirPods 2 for a longer period of time. That, however, remains to be seen.
What's more, the leak says the new AirPods are said to use Qi charging, more known as wireless charging. This new feature, however, has a downside: the case will be quite larger and heavier to give room for the technology used for wireless charging.
Although leaker Max Weinbach as has had some experience in the Android space, he hasn't established a proven track record when it comes to Apple devices, 9To5Mac noted. As such, it would be best to take Weinbach's leak lightly and wait for the AirPods to be released soon.
Release dates and other rumors
Speaking of release dates, another leak courtesy of Spanish-language blog AppleSfera (via BGR) said the first-gen AirPods, which have had a decent run, will face end of stock on March 28, 2019.
AppleSfera's source, which according to the blog is familiar with Apple's plans, said the new AirPods 2 will replace its older sibling and will be released the day after the first-gen AirPods end, on March 29.
Other rumors say the new AirPods 2 will only work with the AirPower universal charger; will come in white and black versions, and will feature support for Apple's virtual assistant, Siri.
The AirPods 2 is also said to feature a new look reminiscent of the Apple Pencil 2. No, it won't be lengthened to resemble the pencil -- it will feature matte surfaces instead of a smooth glossy finish, as the Pencil 2 does. This might help keep the AirPods 2 attached to users' ears.
Of course, these are but rumors until Apple formally announces the AirPods 2, or officially releases the said next-gen wireless earphones in the market. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
