BBC will sustain the emotional run of its medical drama Call The Midwife Season 8. Nonnatus House is still reeling from the death of one of its beloved characters during the previous stretch. The untimely demise of Charlotte Ritchie's Nurse Barbara has been devastating to both the fans and the cast.

According to Jennifer Kirby, who plays Nurse Valerie Dyer, the loss of their colleague is a huge blow to the series. However, she is also quick to note that the spirit of Barbara will linger on as her presence will bring comfort to everyone in Call The Midwife Season 8.

As one of the top British TV shows today, the emotional series continues to make its presence felt among fans and viewers. Heidi Thomas is instrumental in bringing Jennifer Worth's book to life when the program premiered in 2012.

The setting for Call The Midwife is quite engaging considering that the story unfolds in a nursing abbey during the 1950s. With London still struggling to get on its feet following the Second World War, the lives of the midwives, nuns, and nurses in Nonnatus House have their share of fun, disappointments, and victories.

Although new characters and new subplots will be integrated into the impending stretch, Season 8 will be bringing back most of the mainstays. These include Leonie Elliot's Nurse Lucille Anderson and Linda Bassett's Nurse Phyllis Crane. Jenny Agutter's Sister Julienne and Judy Parfitt's Sister Monica Anne will also be on-board.

It has been confirmed that the character Nurse Trixie Franklin will return. Aside from dealing with alcoholism issues in the show, the absence of actress Helen George, who played the role, is attributed to the birth of her child.

It will be springtime when the next installment begins sometime in 2019. A couple of new nuns are set to join the house. On the other hand, Reverend Tom Hereward, who is portrayed by Jack Ashton, will likely be out during the upcoming segment, considering that his on-screen wife Nurse Barbara has died during the previous edition.

Ashton's character will be leaving for New Guinea to pursue some missionary work for his wife's father. Also, Sister Winifred, who is depicted by Victoria Yeates, will also not return although her role is certainly open should she opt to rejoin. The actress is currently busy as Bunty in the movie Fantastic Beasts.

The primary episode for Call The Midwife Season 8 will build up the excitement about the arrival of a new royal baby. In line with this, a friendly competition about guessing the gender of the child will also be launched. On the other hand, Sister Monica will be stressed out due to the worsening state of her dementia.
