The excitement for The Affair Season 5 is definitely on. However, fans and viewers don't want to hear the accompanying development of the good news. Television's infidelity drama is coming to an end. The twilight is on its way.
According to Gary Levine, Showtime Networks' President of Programming, the platform for the show has already been mapped out even before the series began. Showrunner Sarah Treem has initially introduced the plots of The Affair to run through on a shorter course.
The truth is, Treem outlined an approach for the program to be shown in three seasons. However, producer David Nevins has hinted to extend the show even though the initial format had already been approved.
Although the series has presented a breakout stretch during its opening season, inconsistency in terms of viewer interest has hounded the show thereafter. 2014 is a big year for the program as it bagged the best drama award during the Golden Gloves.
With the sad state of the characters manifesting itself all over the place, the next two stretches tunes in some low-key storylines. However, Season 4 mounts an interesting trek and the subplots leading forward put the show back on track.
With the original characters still in tow, Season 5 will likely sustain the deceit and the underlying manipulations. However, some roles will probably be added to bolster the overall performance of the series.
Jennifer Jason Leigh will join the bandwagon. Levine has announced the casting of the actress into the show during the 2019 TCA Winter Press Tour. However, the role that the Hateful Eight and Single White Female star will take on remains unknown.
Also on-board is Anna Paquin. She will portray the adult Joanie Lockhart character. Considering that her role is the daughter of Cole Lockhart and Alison Bailey, it will be quite intriguing to know how she would unravel the circumstances of her mother's demise.
It can be recalled that Bailey, who is played by Ruth Wilson, died by the end Season 4. It is highly likely that she will nowhere to be found in the next installment. With this in mind, the spotlight will be put on Paquin to shed light on the details of Alison's death.
Season 5 will bring the Oscar-winning actress back to Montauk. Her investigation will soon bring her across the climate change-affected place. Another narrative will cross paths with the storyline. Wilson's relationship with a violent boyfriend prior to her death will also be tackled.
Returning once more for The Affair Season 5 are Dominic West's Noah and Maura Tierney's Helen. Julia Goldani Telles and Jadon Sand will also be back. Sanaa Lathan will reprise her role as Noah's love interest Janelle.
