While the competition has already released or at least announced their new flagship smartphones, tech giant Google has yet to make any announcement on the upcoming phones believed to be called the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. Because Google is silent, the rumor mill is all the more noisy about it. Read on for more details.
Google is believed to be working on two new flagship smartphone models, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. These new phones are said to be the company's best take yet on Android and are expected to feature a few specs and details meant to outshine the competition.
First, CNET reports that as with older Pixel handsets, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL is slated to run on the latest Android version, the still-unnamed Android Q. So far, there are no rumors speculating a possible "Q" meaning, but there are rumored features like a system-wide dark mode, improved facial recognition, enhanced security, and more.
Second, the new Pixel phones are believed to come with a dual-SIM dual standby feature. Current models, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, both feature dual-SIM capabilities that are very limited. For starters, only one SIM can be activated at a time, meaning if one is used for data, text or calls, the other is inactive. This new feature changes that.
The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are believed to feature a dual-active dual-SIM feature that allows a user to receive messages on a SIM while the other is being used for calling. Of course, that same SIM can't receive a call while the other is already in a call. This feature, despite new for the Pixel, is already existing in other phones.
Third, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are believed to have a notch-less display. According to 91mobiles, a phone patent filed to that World Intellectual Property Organisation and registered to Google features a notch-less phone that virtually has no bezels on all sides. This gives rise to speculations about a pop-up selfie camera.
The same patent also revealed two front-facing speakers, one at the top and the other at the bottom part of the phone.
Lastly, Google is expected to release the new Pixel phones in October, CNET reported. This is because Google has been releasing new Pixel flagships in October. The same could happen this year, with Google having a developer's conference in May, followed by a possible release months later.
