Big names in the car industry recalled one million cars with dangerous airbags in the U.S. and in Canada.
A document posted on Monday stated that Honda could recall almost one million of their vehicles both in Canada and in the U.S. The Canadian safety regulators points at the dangerous airbags as the main reason behind.
Takata, the airbag maker for Honda and other car brands receives that hit for the one million car recall as they allegedly installed dangerous airbags during the past recalls. Reports said that in order for creating a small explosion to inflate the airbag, the manufacturer used the chemical ammonium nitrate. However, the frequent temperature change from hot to cold can make the chemical deteriorate.
The study showed that the high humidity that is always present in vehicles contributes to the ammonium nitrate to weaken. When the said chemical deteriorates, it can easily burn and pose a serious risk to the driver as well as the passengers' safety. Statistics show hundreds of injured casualties and 23 reported deaths due to the dangerous airbags.
Big names from the automotive industry are involved in the said one million cars with dangerous airbags recall. Included in the largest automotive recall in the U.S. history are vehicles under previous recall even those who already had their airbags replaced.
Among the specific brands and models affected by the recall are Honda's popular models. Models from their 2001 line up until their 2010 series will be recalled. This one million car recall due to dangerous airbags is Honda's second recall time.
Honda CR-V models from 2002 up to their 2006 models top the list of one million Honda cars dangerous airbags recall. Included in the list are Honda Accord models 2001 to 2007, Honda Civic 2001 up to 2005 models, Honda Element models from 2003 up to 2010, Honda Pilot 2003 through 2008 models, Ridgeline from 2006 and Honda Odyssey from 2002 up to 2004 models.
Acura luxury car models are also affected by the one million car recall due to dangerous airbags. CL from 2003, TL from 2002 up to 2003, EL from 2001 up to 2005 as well as MDX from 2003 up to 2006 are also on the list.
As of the moment, defective Takata airbag inflator repair count climbed to 7.2 million. United States automakers continue their effort to track down every single car that needs airbag replacement.
