Tesla Model 3 software update promises an increase in power output and performance.
Tesla's most recent firmware update version 2019.8.2 comes not just with an update but with a peak power increase update. The power increase comes as a fulfillment of what the company has promised when they released the Model 3 more than a year ago, with the new interior at a shorter range for $35,000. The power increase update promise came along the company's assurance to release software updates that would bring various upgrades as well as a longer range.
A statement from Tesla came through a release note saying that their clients' vehicle's peak power has been increased by approximately 5%, which will improve acceleration and Performance making their Model 3 vehicles feel more powerful. Tesla Model 3 vehicles can now be expected to run to a top speed of up to 162 mph.
Elon Musk hinted this scenario back on February 28 when he said that for their pretty cool customers, there are some things that they have been able to do. He further added that they were able to improve the range of the long-range rear wheel drive car from 310 miles to 325 miles through a firmware update. Tesla is as much a software company as a hardware one as described by the Tesla founder and Chief Executive Officer.
A Twitter post also from the Tesla CEO released a glimpse to its customers on what the company has in store for them this month. The Twitter status update even released an advanced notice to the Tesla loyal customers asking them to expect a jump in power in the days to come.
Although there isn't much proof of the Tesla Model 3 software update increasing the power output at 3.5 seconds as Tesla is claiming yet, a Reddit user testified that in just 3.29 seconds after the firmware update, his Model 3 Performance increased from zero up to 60.
This is not the first time that a software update actually impacts and brings an upgrade to the Tesla vehicles' performance. Existing Long-Range Model 3s increased their range by 15 miles after the company pushed an update last week. The increase came after a Model 3 Performance increased by 7 mph (10 km/h) after a firmware update.
Model 3 owners are informed about the Tesla Model 3 update which promises an increase in power output performance through a prompt flashed on their 15-inch infotainment screen. The over the air update comes with no required additional effort from the owner.
