Melania Trump delivered a speech Wednesday at the recent Prescription Drug Abuse and Heroin Summit held in Atlanta wearing her $2,300 black and white polka dot dress.
She attended the event with her husband, President Donald Trump, in the wake of Monday's reports of an argument between the two at their Mar-a-Lago Resort in Florida. As is her usual, the First Lady of the United States appeared her spiffy self, wearing an Alessandra Rich outfit which she paired with a white coat.
In her brief speech, Melania initially expressed her gratitude to law enforcement "for all they do" every day to "protect us." She then went on to give a brief talk on the opioid epidemic in the country.
Melania spoke of her role as the First Lady in battling this crisis in the U.S., saying that the concern was her focus in the light of what America's children and young mothers are going through to deal with the situation.
She shared that, in relation to her work on the prescription drug and opioid abuse, she has witnessed the medical as well as personal impacts the problem has brought forth. She also mentioned her visits to various treatment centers and hospitals in the country.
She mentioned she had the opportunity to meet people who work closely with this pressing problem, such as nurses and doctors as well as young mothers and children.
The FLOTUS gave the assurance that her work will continue to bring awareness especially on the risks of opioid use to fetuses. She also voiced her commitment in generating support for more facilities which have the capacity to assist both affected mothers and babies in recovering.
Melania then talked of her work as enabling mothers and their children to break the bonds of addiction and supplant and restore that instead with the bond of love.
She spoke of having reached out to some children who attended the Operation Unite summer camp last year. She pointed out they were sent a video on her talk regarding her "Be Best" campaign, which seeks, among other things, to respond to and deal with the concern on opioid abuse.
At the end of her speech, she gave praise to the administration's efforts in addressing "this crisis," saying that "together" a difference has been made in terms of "real progress" in the recovery of people affected as well as in engendering support and in healing not just of families but of the nation.
After her talk, she introduced her husband who also touched on his administration's fight against the drug crisis.
The president all in all made a promise in his speech that there was "nothing" which would "stop him" from wiping out this pressing national concern.
Later in the day, the First Couple made a show of closeness and unity in public, holding hands as they were photographed on the White House grounds, after arriving from the summit.
Wednesday's appearance came at the heels of a report on the couple's purported disagreement at Mar-a-Lago a month ago, where a said witness claimed to have overheard the two arguing at the resort's restaurant.
This was denied by the First Lady's spokesperson.
