China-based Xiaomi is reportedly preparing the release of two flagship smartphones under the sub-brand Redmi. The latest leaks claim the devices will debut as the Redmi K20 and the Redmi K20 Pro with the latter, unsurprisingly, generating the most interest by Android fans.
That's because the K20 Pro, which for now is geared only for a China release, is thought to be rebranded as the much anticipated Xiaomi Pocophone F2 when it hits the international market, BGR India reported. And since the device will be among the flagship circle, it only follows that it will boast of premium specifications and foremost of which is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 SoC, the report added.
The whole excitement, however, does not end there. Per the related report from GSM Arena, Xiaomi supposedly announced the imminent arrival of its flagship killer device. The handset is said to have been designed to snatch the title once attributed to the OnePlus phone line, which in later releases have been tagged with relatively higher sticker price.
The same report indicated that Xiaomi, through Company VP Manu Jain, is working on a device that will impress high-end specifications but with reasonable pricing.
"At Xiaomi, we've believed in making innovations accessible to everyone by developing such Flagship Killers. As you will see again soon," the Xiaomi executive was reported as saying.
While the company has yet to confirm, speculations are rife that it is the Redmi brand that will provide the next Android flagship killer since the line has been known to unpack low-price handsets but with decent or even respectable specifications.
There are talks too that this flagship killer from Xiaomi is none other than the sequel to the Pocophone F1, and the build, design, and specifications will be patterned after the rumored Redmi K20 Pro.
The details that made their way out so far somehow confirmed that the K20 Pro is of flagship caliber. For starters, having the Snapdragon 855 as the power under its hood indeed makes the device a hero phone, and certainly within the league of current Android flagship phones.
Then on the camera side, the serving will be a triple setting on the rear and composed of 48MP as main, 8MP ultra-wide and 16MP telephoto sensors. For selfie duties, the K20 Pro will have a 20MP pop-up shooter.
The latter indicates of a full-screen AMOLED display that measures 6.49-inch diagonally with an in-display fingerprint scanner and ample protection thanks to the use of Gorilla Glass 6 technology.
In the end, though, Xiaomi has the final say on whether the Redmi K20 Pro will unbox outside of China as the Pocophone F2. If that happens, then fans can expect this flagship killer to sell within the affordable price range, likely no more than $500.
