Fast rising China-based device maker Xiaomi is about to unleash a flagship phone with supposedly mass-appeal, thanks to the combo of high-end specifications and affordable pricing. The Redmi K20 has been confirmed to unbox on May 28 as rumors persist that a Pro version is on the way too and it will double as the hotly anticipated Pocophone F2.
Redmi, which is the Xiaomi sub-brand that competes in the entry-level and mid-range segments, has announced the K20 arrival via the micro-blogging site Weibo. The teaser posted indicates a Tuesday outing for the handset though it's unclear if the launch will also be the device's release date.
It was clear though that the K20 will unpack with premium specs and features, and among them is the 48MP rear shooter that will be equipped with a Sony IMX586 sensor and part of a triple camera setting. This, according to GSM Arena, was personally confirmed by Xiaomi founder Lei Jun.
Included likewise with the killer camera capabilities is support for 960fps slow-motion video recording, a feature that Xiaomi has stated is certainly dropping with the Redmi K20.
The flagship device is also touted with a pop-up selfie shooter, which is a solid confirmation that there will be no notch or punch holes that will break the screen display, per Android Authority. Obviously, Xiaomi is playing on the ongoing rage of Full Display Android smartphones, the latest version of which is the OnePlus 7 Pro.
As part of the near bezel-free display package, the Redmi K20 is tipped to allow device login with the use of UD fingerprint reader that is embedded right under the device's AMOLED panel. And to protect the whole delicate viewing window, Corning's Gorilla Glass 6 will be on hand.
Tapped to power the Redmi K20 is the 2019 flagship SoC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 855 processor that is found on the current lineup of Android high-end devices.
Now while the regular Redmi K20, dubbed by its maker as the next Android flagship killer, certainly excites, it appears that a rumored Pro version is even more anticipated. Speculations are rife the K20 Pro is the beefed up version of its sibling, meaning its specs and features will be pimped up for better mobile gameplay experience.
And since the K20 Pro is supposedly built chiefly for the gaming crowd, talks have been afire that it will be repurposed as the follow up to Xiaomi's Pocophone that was introduced in 2018. The Pocophone F2, when it materializes, will be marketed outside of China but to be clear, Xiaomi has yet confirm the device's existence.
