The Goldfinch is one of those recent book releases that has generated a lot of interest and Hollywood has adapted its story into a film starring Ansel Elgort and Nicole Kidman. Set for a Sept. 13. 2019 release on the big screen, this movie is from director John Crowley and screenplay writer Peter Straughan.

The drama on The Goldfinch begins with a 13-year-old boy named Theo Decker (played by Oakes Fegley) who survived a bombing attack in a museum. His mother, however, was killed in the terrorist act, so he was left to care of his abusive and alcoholic father, Larry (played by Luke Wilson), in Las Vegas.

The mother of his rich friends, however, took Theo in and Samantha (played by Kidman) tried her best to take care of the boy. But Theo grew up (as Elgort) still longing for his mother's love. Lost, Theo becomes embroiled in the underworld as an adult and would later become obsessed with the goldfinch painting that connected him to his mom.

The teaser to The Goldfinch opens with a piano and a song titled "Otherside" from Perfume Genius. The clips did not give anything away except to show the main premise featuring the museum bombing and images of Theo from a child to an adult.

"When I lost her, I lost sight of any landmark that might have led me someplace happier," Elgort's voice is heard in the clip narrating his deepest feelings. The painting of the goldfinch is also flashed a few times in the teaser.

Warner Bros secured the rights to The Goldfinch movie when the Donna Tartt book became a hit and a Pulitzer Prize winner in 2014. Three years later, the studio partnered with Amazon to finance the film adaptation, as per Variety.

Following the deal, Elgort and Kidman were cast in The Goldfinch. The movie also features Sarah Paulson, Jeffrey Wright, Finn Wolfhard, Aneurin Barnard, Willa Fitzgerald, Ashleigh Cummings, and Luke Kleintank.

Production of The Goldfinch took place in January 2018 in New York and Albuquerque. This early, critics are anticipating that the film and the actors will become Oscar contenders.

"I hope that people find a piece of themselves in the story, and I hope that whatever drew all those people to that book will also draw them to this movie," Elgort said while talking to an audience at the recent CinemaCon. "I think they will be drawn to this movie because they did a pretty great job capturing that tone and telling this epic story."
