For actor Jim Carter, who plays the butler Carson in Downton Abbey, filming the movie has been a different experience than the TV show. The system of work on the follow-up feature was different, and the cast didn't have much time to mingle while working because many of them were not together during the scenes.
Carter said that the experience of working on the Downton Abbey movie was "slightly thinner." There were fewer instances of the cast meeting and talking to each other at break time since most of them filmed their scenes separately.
"It was ten weeks [of work] instead of six months," Carter said, as per Daily Mail. "We were filming separately in our own little stories a lot more than we were on the TV program."
The Downton Abbey movie started production sometime in the late summer of 2018 at Highclere Castle. Production quickly wrapped up in November and Carter recalled the cast belonging to the downstairs staff had little chances of hobnobbing with the cast playing the Crawley family.
The plot of the Downton Abbey movie is still a mystery to the fans. A recent teaser, however, showed that the King and Queen of England would be visiting the estate, as per Variety. The film will take place in 1927.
Meanwhile, Carter will be returning to Highclere Castle on June 22 for the special musical event "Downton Abbey Live" with the Chamber Orchestra of London and composer John Lunn. He will be in character as he narrates events that have happened during his time serving the Crawleys.
"[Carson] goes back and we talk about the loves, the lives, the disasters, the tragedies, the fun of the whole six series, which is linked together by the music," the actor told Reuters.
The Downton Abbey movie will hit theaters in September in the U.K. and the U.S. The film will bring back the main stars of the TV series -- Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Allen Leech, Joanne Froggatt, Elizabeth McGovern, Rob James Collier, Phyllis Logan, Sophie McShera, Brandan Coyle, Lesley Nicol, and Dame Maggie Smith. Two new cast members, Imelda Staunton, and Tuppence Middleton, will be introduced in the film.
The TV show aired from 2010 to 2015 and has captivated a global audience. Downton Abbey was an Emmy, BAFTA and Golden Globes winner, as well as a Guinness World Record holder. The show, as well as the film, was produced and written by Julian Fellowes.
