The recent release of Apple's summer lineup of the MacBook featured new 13-inch and 15-inch models sporting new generation Intel chips. With this, there are a number of rumors claiming that Apple may soon add a refreshed version of the 12-inch and 16-inch models.
12-inch MacBook with Ice Lake Processor?
The last time the 12-inch MacBook model received an update was way back in mid-2017. While some have speculated that this particular MacBook model might be headed for extinction, some believe that Apple was just waiting for the perfect time to release an updated model.
Things started to get a little bumpy for the 12-inch model starting in 2018 when Apple decided to call the 13-inch MacBook Air Retina as its flagship model. From this point on, the fate of the 12-inch MacBook model hinges on refreshed and updated models.
Nevertheless, speculations did not die. Some believe that the 12-inch MacBook model is a great candidate to house Intel's new Ice Lake family of processors. This will be a big boosts for the model's popularity since the chip is the first in Intel's lineup of processors that are manufactured using the 10nm process.
The only problem with this speculation is that the 13-inch MacBook Retina is also a great candidate for the 10nm Ice Lake processor. From this perspective, it would be reasonable for Apple to put a stock 10nm Ice Lake processor in the 12-inch model, while the 13-inch model can have the high-performance U variant of the same processor lineup.
MacBook Pro with OLED Display?
Despite being on the forefront of tech innovation, it is quite disheartening to know that Apple has yet to transition its laptops into the more efficient and power OLED displays. With this display technology getting more positive reviews from both tech experts and users, the latest iteration of the MacBook Pro might be the perfect vessel for this transition.
There are still speculations whether the new MacBook Pro will feature a 16-inch or a 17-inch display. Whichever hits the market, the type of display used is still the most important factor.
As for its specs, the 2019 MacBook Pro could house some of Intel's latest-generation of mobile processors. The Core i9-9980HK octa-core processor is a great candidate for this upgrade.
For several years now, Apple had greatly relied on Intel's Iris graphics technology for its MacBook lineup. With the availability of AMD's Radeon Pro Vega 20 graphics technology, it will be an interesting choice should Apple decide to jump into the other team's graphics card bandwagon.
