The Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks are both interested in trading for now for Andre Iguodala whom, according to rumors is not included in Memphis Grizzlies' fans to buy out. The team has a high-upside round one pick for taking Andre Iguodala and his salary of around $17,185,185. Is it possible to acquire another crucial asset for flipping the former Golden State Warriors player elsewhere?
When Memphis Grizzlies took Andre Iguodala from the Golden State Warriors, it was obvious that the NBA star does not fit in the rebuilding team. Currently, a 35-year-old player, Iguodala is ready to help a winner now but possibly not for a very long time. There were rumors of a buyout and the most common team that surfaces are the LA Lakers.
However, the Memphis Grizzlies are proceeding like they can do better in a trade. ESPN's Tim MacMahon shared that the Grizzlies have no plans of giving Andre Iguodala a buyout before the NBA season. According to the report, the team is still actively exploring the market for Iguodala.
The most likely teams with interest to the former NBA Finals MVP are the Rockets and the Mavericks. Generally, teams would say that a buyout is totally out of the equation until it takes place. The team will just lose much leverage in negotiating trades if a buyout is on the horizon.
There is no doubt that many teams would want to get Andre Iguodala. He is a great player despite his age, and he is a scarce breed. He is a smart player and has the special ability to get himself to the right place. He is also a very dedicated and committed player who could raise the bar of defense of any team.
Filed to ESPN: The Grizzlies do not plan to give Andre Iguodala a buyout before the season and are actively exploring the trade market for the former Finals MVP, per league sources. Rockets, Mavs among teams with interest. — Tim MacMahon (@espn_macmahon) July 4, 2019
Although he is a good player and a former NBA Finals MVP, the only thing that would limit suitors is his high salary. Not all NBA teams have the flexibility to get him. The Houston Rockets have other high-salary players that they could send back and the Dallas Mavericks still have cap space to process the trade.
Andre Iguodala has been linked to the LA Lakers because the team's current general manager is Igoudala's former agent. With more teams interested with the former NBA Finals MVP, there is no sense that the Memphis would buy him ut considering that they could get something for him.
