Royal Experts claimed that Prince Philip is more devastated with the passing of his father-in-law, King George VI, than Queen Elizabeth.
Andrew Tinniswood, the author of the book "Behind the Throne: A Domestic History of the Royal Household," said that despite the reputation of the Prince of being dominant, he has a soft heart. The royal author wrote that the first person to hear that the former King died was the Queen's former private secretary Martin Charteris.
Tinniswood said that the private secretary immediately phoned the Duke's equerry, Lieutenant-Commander Michael Parker, who was with the Duke and the Queen; and Parker told the Duke. 'He looked as if you'd dropped half of the world on him.
The author mentioned that Prince Philip informed the Queen of her father's death. The private secretary found the Queen very composed when he arrived at the Sagana Royal Lodge, where the couple stays. The Queen was in Kenya on a tour of the Commonwealth during the death of his father.
Everyone was surprised, even his physicians when the former King died even though he suffered from an illness for a long time. Before his death, Princess Marie Louise said that he had made a full recovery. King George VI died, at 56, of coronary thrombosis despite a long battle with lung cancer.
The family is aware that the health of the Queen is failing since the early 1950s. He postpones his scheduled tour to New Zealand and Australia because of his health condition. He also suffered from an arterial blockage in 1949 and his left lung needed to be removed in 1951. Before his death, he assured that he had trained his daughter in the ways of the monarchy by bringing her in many state affairs.
