The LA Lakers made an interesting move when it acquired Anthony Davis a few weeks ago. But the team, despite LeBron James and Anthony Davis' presence, is in dire need of another star player to make the team more solid and to provide support from the far end of the court. Several reports surfaced recently claiming that the team's talk with Carmelo Anthony is still happening through the help of LeBron James.
The Los Angeles Lakers have the required cap space and have been looking for NBA players following their failure to secure Kawhi Leonard. Rumors have it that the team is planning to acquire Carmelo Anthony who has ample experience to balance the court with Davis and James. In addition, LeBron James is the one reportedly talking and trying to get Anthony in the Lakers.
LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony are very good friends, and both began their career together. At one point, Carmelo Anthony used to help LeBron James and several sources say he was instrumental for making James the player that he is today. Carmelo Anthony is a 10-time All-Star NBA player, but his performance at the Houston Rockets is a bit lacking, and he has not done much to help Chris Paul and James Harden.
It is possible that it is LeBron James convincing the team to get Carmelo Anthony since the NBA Finals MVP knows how talented his friend is. The LA Lakers could use Anthony's experience and to make the deal sweeter, they will not have any problems or issues with LeBron. The recent move of the Lakers indicates that they have been looking for good players to serve as their alternative for the spot supposedly intended for Kawhi Leonard.
Just recently, the team acquired DeMarcus Cousins and Danny Green at a much cheaper salary cap. They have also re-signed JaVale McGee, Rajon Rondo, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Getting Carmelo Anthony to play for the team could prove to be a powerful move.
Carmelo Anthony could be very useful especially in providing a balance between strong players like James and Davis. He has extensive experience in the field and can depend on should their top players suffer from injuries. He could be a great addition to the team which aims to be the next NBA champion in the upcoming season.
The only problem LA Lakers has now is that the majority of their players are 30 years old and older. They might want to consider younger breeds of NBA players. But, for now, let us wait and see what the team is capable of when the NBA starts.
