Installation rates for Windows 10 May 2019 Update have been reportedly low, partly due to the issues Microsoft hadn't anticipate. Users have reported that the company has blocked updates for many people because of software and hardware compatibility issues.

Following this news, installation rates for the update may start to increase as Microsoft has now lifted the blocks. However, the company says that it may take a little while for the update to appear especially to users who haven't been successful in installing it previously.

Microsoft has promised that it will be more transparent, but the recent update regarding the removed blocks wasn't exactly announced via its corporate blogs. The company, instead, chose to silently update a Known Issues page on Microsoft Docs.

If you're a Windows 10 user, you may have heard or experienced these issues. According to some users, Windows 10 is unable to upgrade to version 1903 via a memory card or USB storage device plugged-in to their PC. Since mid-May, everybody has been aware of this 1903 blocker, but Microsoft only fixed a few days ago June 11.

Microsoft outlined three issues that prevented users from installing the Windows 10 update. As per Microsoft, the issues that have been fixed are as follows:

  • Loss of functionality in Dynabook Smartphone Link app

  • Audio not working with Dolby Atmos headphones and home theatre

  • Error attempting to update with external USB device or memory card attached

The first issue was reported in the last weeks of May. According to some users, some functions on their PC have been disabled after installing version 1903. Microsoft has now issued compatibility fixes, but it did note that it may take up to 48 hours before you can reinstall the latest version.

The issue with Dolby Atmos meanwhile was due to an error in licensing configuration. Microsoft said that it had to place a "protective hold" on devices that could potentially experience the issue after upgrading to the latest version.

Finally, Microsoft has fixed perhaps the most known issue users have reported, wherein users were attempting to install Windows 10 1903 via a USB device or memory card. Some users have resorted to sticking their devices with flash drives to block version 1903. Well, Microsoft says that will no longer work.

If your attempts to install the Windows 10 1903 update have failed before, you will soon now be able to do so.
