NBA veteran and big man Dwight Howard recently said that he is open into joining either of the Los Angeles teams, the Clippers or the Lakers. While being considered as old and an injury prone player, Howard is still on the case for his first NBA ring. The possibility of joining either the Lakers or the Clippers will surely increase his chance at that.
Last season, Howard just managed to play nine games with the Washington Wizards. All throughout the season, he is hampered by a recurring back injury that required surgery. He was eventually traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Rumors claim that the Grizzlies will most likely waive Howard if the organization is not able to come up with a reasonable trade option for the eight-time All-Star. Should the Grizzlies push through with its plan of waiving the 33-year-old center, Howard will be a free agent and will have the option to pick a team that he wants to play with, albeit at a lesser deal in terms of salary.
Considering the current team's lineup, Howard will most likely redeem his post as a Laker center, a post that he once played in the 2012-2013 season. With LeBron James and Anthony Davis expected to be a power duo, Howard might be the last piece of the puzzle for the Lakers. However, this lineup will most likely be just a speculation. The Lakers already have a formidable center/forward rotation with Davis and the recent acquisitions of DeMarcus Cousins and JaVale McGee. Lakers will most likely shun Howard's interest in favor of boosting some other positions.
This eventually comes down to the Clippers argument. The Clippers had an exciting off-season following Kawhi Leonard's decision to sign with the organization and the surprise signing of Paul George. Looking at the current Clippers roster, they do not have any formidable center. Howard could fill this gap and eventually play third fiddle for Leonard and George providing the necessary muscle under the rim.
Should Howard eventually end up with the Clippers, he will definitely be the team's starting center. Compared that to the Lakers scenario where he will jostle for minutes with two young and healthy centers in the form of Cousins and McGee. From this point of view, Howard will be a good fit with the Clippers compared with the odds he has with the Lakers.
