Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, held a guest editor spot for British Vogue a few months ago and this issue will finally be hitting stands in the U.K. One of the highlights of this project features her interview with former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama and the duchess shared how they made this happen.

Duchess Meghan said in her column on Vogue that she was originally supposed to be the cover story of and met with the editor-in-chief Edward Enninful for the feature in January. A little while later, she boldly asked Enninful if she could be a guest editor, and he happily obliged.

Choosing to name the September issue of British Vogue as "Forces for Change," Duchess Meghan shared a video while she was at work for this issue on the Sussex Royal official Instagram. Some 15 women will be on the cover of this special release, including the famous New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

British Vogue has been in publication for 103 years and has never had a guest editor. As such, the duchess was on hand in choosing the photographers, as well as which stories and personalities to cover. She had specific instructions for the covers to come out as natural as possible and show some freckles.

"The Duchess of Sussex is the first Guest Editor for British Vogue's September Issue and the last seven months has worked to create an issue of inclusivity and inspiration, focusing on what connects us rather than what divides us," the caption on the video stated.

Meanwhile, Duchess Meghan's one-on-one with Obama is featured in the last pages of the issue. It's in a Q & A format where they talk about a lot of things, including motherhood.

The Obamas are friends with the British royal family, and they support Prince Harry's Invictus Games. However, they were not invited to the wedding of the Sussex royals because Prince Harry and Meghan decided against having political leaders for their wedding. It is believed that Obama and the duchess met when the former had her book tour in the U.K.

"Guest Editing the September issue of British Vogue has been rewarding, educational and inspiring," the duchess wrote on Instagram. "To deep dive into this process, working quietly behind the scenes for so many months, I am happy to now be able to share what we have created."
