The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) recently gave the Tesla Model 3 a perfect 5-star rating for safety. This means that Tesla's flagship electric car is essentially one of the safest vehicles available today.
While ANCAP is based in Australia, its perfect rating of for the Tesla Model simply shows just how important safety is to Tesla. The findings were announced to the public through a press release on Tuesday. Based on the report, the ANCAP is impressive with Tesla Model 3's wide-ranging suit of both active and passive security features.
The Tesla Model 3 scored a near-perfect 96 percent from ANCAP in terms of Adult Occupant Protection systems. The report also revealed that the electric car managed a perfect score on three out of four tests. In the frontal offset test, the Model 3 also had a perfect score for its front passenger component. This particular test simulates a direct head-on collision. A perfect score is given to a car for child occupants that have passed the side impact test as well.
As for ANCAP's Safety Assist category, the Tesla Model 3 scored 94 percent, the highest score to be given car that were tested using ANCAP's protocols. ANCAP's protocols are based on the European New Car Assessment Program. Earlier this month, the European safety agency also gave the Tesla Model 3 a perfect 5-Star Safety Rating, a testament to the electric car's suite of safety protocols.
In a statement, ANCP Chief Executive Officer James Goodwin said, "It is encouraging to see Tesla give equal attention to the active safety systems and technologies on board as well as the safety fundamentals through the structure and restraints."
The 5-Star ANCAP Safety Ratings will be applied to all models of the Tesla Model 3 that will be sold in both Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, ANCAP recently said in a press release that electric cars would be introduced into the Australian and New Zealand market starting August 2019.
The perfect ANCAP rating is just one of the many safety accolades that had been bestowed into the Tesla Model 3. The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had also given it a perfect safety score. This is despite the fact that the NHTSA is one of the strictest safety agencies in the world.
With perfect safety ratings from some of the world's top safety regulators, it goes to show just how much Tesla values safety. Moreover, it is also a great marketing strategy.
