A year after "The Sims 4" was released, fans were already requesting for the "The Sims 5." Despite the fans' clamor online, EA and Maxis have not yet released any statement about the release of the much-awaited fifth game iteration. And, with the recent actions from the game developer, it seems that the fans will have to wait a little longer for the highly anticipated title.
EA and Maxis recently roll out a massive collection of hotfixes, updates, and several new features on "The Sims 4." Also, they launched the Island Living DLC, which features a lot of content that makes playing "The Sims 4" more interesting. Although these releases make the game more exciting, these might also prolong the release of "The Sims 5."
The game publisher did not announce or even tease about "The Sims 5" during this year's E3 event and instead unveiled the Island Living DLC for "The Sims 4." The marketing team of the game also launched a free game download which allows other fans who were not able to play the current title to download it for free. While others interpret this strategic move as a clue that the next game iteration is probably coming, it is more of EA giving everybody the chance to play the game and benefiting on the contents later.
EA's latest Q1 financial result reveals that both "Apex Legends" and "The Sims 4" exceeded their forecast. EA's Andrew Wilson reports that "The Sims 4" plays a significant role in the company's success during the first quarter. From 2018, the expansion packs along with the game pack downloads rose by 55 percent.
Additionally, the marketing promotion that offered "The Sims 4" free of download raked in a whopping 7 million new players as revealed during the company's earnings call. The CEO also called this year as the biggest so far for "The Sims 4." The Island Living DLC released this summer is by far the game's best-selling pack.
Previous reports were claiming that the release of "The Sims 5" will be dependent on the success of "The Sims 4." But, given the recent actions of EA, it seems that these reports were mere speculations. The game publisher seems to be overwhelmed by the success of "The Sims 4."
The reception of the players on the latest DLC pack of "The Sims 4," the massive increase in sales from game expansion and game packs simply means that EA is still earning a lot form the title. It appears that EA is following the modern game releases nowadays where the next installment will have to wait, and players will have to enjoy the game with what appears to be an infinite release of contents. If this is the case, then we might hear more about "The Sims 5" next year.
