Real Madrid are reportedly ready to make one last final push to approach Paul Pogba this summer, with Manchester United facing a fight to keep him at all cost. For most of his career at Old Trafford, the Frenchman has been hit and miss, but he did prove his worth in Juventus and at the international level that he can be the top player that he is.
However, it is understood that Man Utd are not ready (or can't afford) to let Pogba go. Reports suggest that the English club are ready to reject any offers coming from Real, despite the player keeping his interest in a move to the Bernabeu, according to a report by the Times.
Madrid have always been big spenders when it comes to top players, and could do with long-term replacements for the likes of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
With Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini departing in the past eight months, United are light on central midfield options, and any sale seems unlikely. Real president Florentino Perez is said to be desperate to deliver Pogba to Zinedine Zidane, who has been targeting both Eden Hazard and Pogba this summer, which means Real should double-time to try and get the France international as soon as they can.
Should they sign Pogba, however, it seems they'll have to wait until next year at the very least, though it's easy to believe that Man Utd would prefer not to sell one of their biggest names in the middle of the season.
Two more weeks are left until the transfer window closes for Spanish clubs, so United may not be quite out of the woods yet in terms of keeping Pogba at the club.
In other news, Mathias Pogba currently plies his trade for Spanish fourth division side CD Manchego and was asked about his brother's potential move to to the Bernabeu in a recent interview on television show El Chiringuito.
Asked about the proposed move for his sibling, Mathias said: "[My brother] is missing [at Real Madrid] and [they] need another midfielder. It's a delicate situation, but the player has his personal goals. If you have to leave, well, that's it."
Arriving at a world-record for £89 million from Juve three years ago, Pogba has both delighted and frustrated fans of United fairly, prompting the rumors that he will eventually leave the club. He was also linked with Turin, though a move to Madrid has always been more likely.
