Microsoft encouraged its Windows 10 users to upgrade to 1903 last month. Unfortunately for those who did, things aren't going so well, with the company confirming the reported errors.
BleepingComputer reported last week that those who have upgraded to Windows 10 1903 were being hit by error codes and some failures when installing the latest KB4512508 Cumulative Update. The numbers are pretty small, but it's still a cause for a major concern.
Up on the Windows 10 Health Dashboard is an update from Microsoft stating that the issue affects 1903 versions of both Windows 10 and Windows Server, and they also admitted that the issues were first noticed in the May 29, 2019 KB4497935 update months ago.
Users have pointed out that Microsoft shouldn't have kept their silence regarding the errors, but the company insisted that they are working on a fix. However, they exactly haven't given info when the fix will be delivered. And it's likely this won't be the end of our Windows 10 troubles.
"Installation of updates may fail and you may receive the error message, 'Updates Failed.' There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later" or "Error 0x80073701" on the Windows Update dialog or within Update history," Microsoft wrote.
Some users reported that the issues started hitting them on Aug. 13.
Windows Latest writes that Microsoft had only acknowledged one error code, the 0x80073701, when there are four more errors hitting Windows 10 users. These are 0x800f0982, 0x800f081f, 0x800f0845 and 0x8024200D.
It's unknown if Microsoft is aware of these errors or when they will recognize these, but these codes are extremely vague and most users are pretty much clueless how to deal with it.
This mirrors the time when Microsoft first rolled out Window 10 1903, which is considered by a lot of people as a mess of an update, and the fact that Microsoft forced it doesn't still well with a lot of people. The tech giant is also working to patch wormable issues and some Visual Basic problems that seem to come with every Windows 10 version.
The company has announced delivering the next version of Windows 10 as a cumulative update. Windows 10 19H2 or the October 2019 Update is being tested through the Slow Ring Insiders, and users are hoping that without the burden of trying new features, Microsoft will be able to focus entirely on improving performance and quality of the operating system.
