Netflix's first German-language series Dark is coming on the streaming giant for a third season. The time-traveling series is based on the fictional town of Winden and travels back and forth in time in 33-year cycles. Dark season 3 added several new faces on board, such as Barbara Nüsse and Nina Kronjäger, who will reportedly play older versions of these characters.

Dark became an instant hit on Netflix following its debut on the platform in December 2017, with some calling it as the European version of Stranger Things. Dark season 3 will reportedly be the final installment of the sci-fi series and new additions Nüsse and Kronjäger have been speculated to play older versions of Elisabeth and Martha, respectively.

According to a report from MEA Worldwide, Nüsse, 76, might be the apt choice in playing the older Elizabeth Doppler. The actress is also 36 years older than the 45-year-old Sandra Borgmann, who played middle-aged Elizabeth.

Kronjäger, on the other hand, could reportedly play a middle-aged Martha. But then, this will only be possible if the actress would be playing the character in the parallel world, as it can be recalled the "real Martha" was killed off at the end of the second season.

Right now, the release date of Dark season 3 was not yet revealed, but some speculated that it would come back in summer or spring 2020. The renewal status was confirmed back in May 2019, and the upcoming installment would be last. While this is bad news for fans, the show's time cycle only comes in three so it makes sense the third season would be the final one.

Aside from Nüsse and Kronjäger, other newcomers in Dark season 3 include Hans Diehl, Jakob Diehl, Sammy Scheuritzel and Axel Werner. Also, other characters expected to return include Jonas (played by Louis Hofmann) and older Jonas (Andreas Pietschmann), Magnus (Moritz Jahn), Franziska (Gina Stiebitz), teenage Bartosz (Paul Lux), Hannah (Maja Schone), Charlotte (Karoline Eichhorn), and Noah (Mark Waschke).

The plot of Dark season 3 is not yet revealed as well, but viewers know that alternate realities exist - thanks to the final moments teased at the end of the second season. In season 2 finale, someone looks like Martha shows up and tells younger Jonas she's not from this world, which is one of the major twists within the series.

The third and final season needs to clear things up and explain how the rest of the narratives could affect other characters, and how many alternate realities there are.
