A recently uncovered Sony patent shows an odd-looking gaming rig, which soon was learned as not just a drawing but an actual concept for the PlayStation 5. In a now-deleted tweet by a video game developer, the next console from Sony could look totally different from its predecessors. While there is no confirmation yet that this is the final design, we already have some stunning renders imagining what the next-generation console might look like.
Thanks to the guys over at LetsGoDigital, our expectations, at least design-wise, for the PS5 have been set. The black and white illustrations have now been transformed into detail imagery of what the PS5 could look like in real life. The renders are based on what Sony has provided except for the SSD and PS5 logos, along with the watermarks of the blog credited for the image.
There are some ports and buttons on the front of the console, as well as an opening for discs. A V-shaped cutout is clearly noticeable, setting out the console from previous PlayStation devices.
The V shape is a clever reference depicting that it is, in fact, the PlayStation 5, and it also serves as ventilation that helped make the console a clear standout, assuming the lights would indeed light up through the openings. But as gamers go, it is what's on the inside, which Sony has already confirmed to be one heck of a beast when it comes to performance.
A lot of fans believe that this could really be the final design of the PlayStation 5, due to the classification of the patent that the PlayStation 4 is also categorized. Still, without a confirmation from Sony, this will all fall under rumors and leaks, which is honestly too good to be true.
It was Matthew Scott who confirmed that the previously leaked design was indeed for the upcoming console. So why believe him? Aside from being a senior artist in Codemasters, Scott has been developing games since the early 1990s. He did not say though that this will be the design that will ship to customers. The deleted tweet indicated that the previously leaked illustrations were the devkit for the PS5, but there is a huge chance the design could end up as the final look for the next-gen console.
Until an official word from Sony emerges, this remains a wishlist. We're hoping the company will confirm if this is indeed what the PS5 looks like soon.
