"Cyberpunk 2077" is one of the highly anticipated games releasing in 2020. One of the central locations where the game revolves is in Night City. In this article, we take a closer look at the game through Night City, the different eras of the designs, the communities and how these affect the player and the overall game.
Based on the screenshots, trailers, and gameplay videos, "Cyberpunk 2077" has a very interesting visual style. People are garbed in tight layers of techwear with colorful and eccentric hairstyles. The streets are littered with neon signs reflected in the rain-drenched concrete.
In other cyberpunk fiction, minor differences try to send the message of the theme revolving in social inequality and corporate dominance. These concepts are usually applied liberally to everything and everyone in the world. Thus, creating a consistent setting dominated by one style, but not "Cyberpunk 2077."
CD Projekt Red takes "Cyberpunk 2077" in a different level and tries to show the organic growth of cyberpunk societies by tracing its backstory into the architecture and fashion of its citizens. CD Projekt Red Senior Concept Artist Marthe Jonkers revealed that the six districts of Night City are roughly similar and differ in style. The artist added that through this, players would easily recognize where they are in the game.
In "The Witcher 3," there are different areas, and the game developer would like to do the same in "Cyberpunk 2077." Jonkers added that the city would easily become boring if you only have the same sort of buildings. The concept artist also shared that each district has its own unique personality.
"Cyberpunk 2077" uses details based on the immense amount of cyberpunk lore and background from Mike Pondsmith's "Cyberpunk 2020." This is the underlying inspiration that CDPR used to create the districts in the game. There are four unique eras that show the visual identity of the game.
This includes Kitsch, Entropism, Neo-Kitsch, and Neo-Militarism. While these districts appear in chronological order, there are several social groups and districts in Night City of "Cyberpunk 2077" that adopt aspects from the other either out of necessity or as indicators of wealth. Jonkers explained that the backbone of the visual design of the city is the districts.
"Cyberpunk 2077" is scheduled for release on April 2020. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. There are speculations that the upcoming game will be a cross-generation title that will most likely land on the next generation gaming console.
