Google's Pixel 4 has been leaking non-stop this week, bombarding the internet with images and videos coming from Vietnam. Just this morning, a new video has surfaced showing how the Pixel 4 XL handles the popular mobile game PUBG Mobile.
The video, posted to YouTube by ReLab on Thursday, purports to show gaming tests on a demo version of the upcoming phone.
"Why do I even call this a gaming phone? Am I crazy?" the reviewer says in the video. "No, I said that because I found out that it is packed with a high-refresh rate screen, 90Hz."
Google obviously won't market the Pixel 4 XL as a gaming phone like the Asus ROG Phone II or the Razer Phone 2. However, it comes with one feature that will potentially make it a decent one: the 90Hz "Smooth Display." This feature will allow for a smoother gameplay experience for some titles.
PUBG Mobile has become one of the most popular Android games that support higher refresh rates, and it sure looks like the Pixel 4 XL can handle it. The 90fps gameplay won't be obviously translated to a video, but from the looks of it, there's hardly any lag with the settings panned to the highest level.
The video showcases that the Pixel 4 XL is definitely an improvement, given the Pixel 3 has the tendency to struggle with some games. It's clear that the extra RAM and newer processor are a huge help.
This is not to say that PUBG Mobile is fully optimized for the Pixel 4 XL, at least not yet. If you check the corners of the screen, you'll notice some missing UI elements in the phone's rounded corners.
The language barrier also makes it quite difficult to gather details, but it's safe to say that the device will perform just fine if you're big on games. The matte materials and the phone's thick top also make it easier to grip the phone, with the reviewer noting that accidentally touching the screen won't be a problem. The video also notes that the Pixel 4 XL comes with a 3700mAh battery.
What's sure for now is that there is definitely a new Pixel phone coming - Google confirmed it in mid-June after leaks started appearing.
So far, the only thing we know about the Google Pixel 4 is that it has motion sensors and a face unlock feature. It has a single front-facing camera, but the XL version has two at the back. A 90Hz display has been confirmed as well, along with the Android 10 OS.
