Manchester United is going to announce a new bumper deal for the 28 years old Spanish goalkeeper. According to reports, the new deal will make him the highest-paid player at Old Trafford. David de Gea entered the last year of his current contract and would soon be able to hold negotiations with other teams about a potential transfer. Manchester United is desperate to keep one of its most prized assets and per The Times, the Red Devils have successfully convinced David de Gea to stay at Old Trafford.
But, in doing so, the team has to stump up a massive amount of money. With the latest bumped contract, the 28 years old will get a whopping £13.5 million annually or roughly £250,000 weekly after tax. David de Gea's new salary overshadows the salary of Paul Pogba, who is the highest-paid so far.
Every other first-team players have a clause in their contracts that reduces their salaries by 25 percent if the team did not qualify for the Champions League. Manchester United, on the other hand, waved de Gea's 25 percent. His past contract included the clause, and without the new deal, he will only receive £150,000 a week before tax.
That is around £100,000 a week difference. Additionally, the contract has no formal or informal release clause and will last for four years. It comes with the option for the fifth year, which could prolong with stay with Manchester United until 2024. David de Gea seems to be coming back to his best form and has a clean sheet in the Red Devils' win Leicester City last weekend.
According to Express, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer initiated David de Gea's contract right after that win. The Norwegian coach said in an interview that De Gea told him that he loves Manchester United and has had an amazing time and would like to stay. He also shared that he was hoping that things will get sorted out for David de Gea during the interview.
The Spanish goalkeeper has been linked to moving to Real Madrid or Paris Saint Germain. David de Gea has been playing for Manchester United in the last five seasons since he moved at the Old Trafford in 2011 from Atletico Madrid. The announcement of David de Gea's bumper deal is expected to happen within 24 hours.
