Since the cancellation on AMC, fans have been hoping that Into The Badlands season 4 could continue on another network or platform. That hope, however, seems to have completely faded as showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar have booked their next series.

According to Deadline, the Into the Badlands creators recently received a script commitment from FOX to develop the musical drama Anthem. This project should have Gough and Millar's time fully occupied even to consider shopping Into the Badlands season 4 somewhere else.

The new series is nothing like their former Martial Arts drama since it is set in Hope, Indiana. However, the conflict might still be familiar to the fans of Into the Badlands as Anthem is about politics, religion, race, and resilience.

AMC canceled the show and dashed plans for Into the Badlands season 4 in February, but reports revealed that the stars have long been released from their contracts. Most of them had also jumped into new projects even before the final episodes were aired on the cable channel.

According to Screen RantInto the Badlands season 4 did not pan out because of AMC's disinterest in the series. It was evident when the network did not promote the third season as much as its other programs like The Walking Dead. There was also a significant gap between the airing of the first and second parts of season 3 during the midseason hiatus last year.

AMC expected Into the Badlands to be a massive hit, but then it failed to attract viewership after two seasons. Nevertheless, the cable channel still renewed the show for season 3 with an expanded 16-episode run.

Although Into the Badlands is also accessible on Netflix, the streaming platform shows no interest in saving the series from AMC. Seasons 1 to 3, however, will continue to run in the streaming platform for quite some time.

Meanwhile, Gough and Millar pitched a spinoff series to Into the Badlandsthat would have been made after season 3. Its story was incorporated in the finale of the third season, when guns were introduced in the show.

The creators planned this spinoff to be similar to HBO's Deadwood as a western drama but interlaced with Martial Arts. The development, however, didn't proceed as AMC also passed on the project.

Into the Badlands starred Daniel Wu, Orla Brady, Emily Beecham, Nick Frost, Babou Ceesay, Lorraine Toussaint and Ella-Rae Smith. The show ran for 32 episodes in total.
