There is little doubt that the upcoming Arrowverse crossover event is going to be massive, bringing in several DC comic book characters to join a story arc that will span several TV shows. After all, the latest news confirmed that Smallville actor Tom Welling would reprise his role as Clark Kent in Crisis on Infinite Earths. But, what are the chances that Lex Luthor will show up in the crossover? Unfortunately, Michael Rosenbaum has revealed that he won't be a part of the event for a surprising reason.
Michael Rosenbaum played Lex Luthor in the first seven seasons of Smallville but, ultimately, reprised the role in the show's final episode. Since then, he has appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Martinex T'Naga and provided the voice of The Flash in several animated DC shows. But would he be open to returning as Superman's nemesis in Crisis on Infinite Earths? Rosenbaum addressed the possibility in a rather depressing tweet.
The tweet served as a response to all fans who were wondering if Michael Rosenbaum will reunite with Tom Welling in the highly anticipated crossover event. Interestingly, Rosenbaum confirmed that WB had reached out to him about the possibility of returning as Lex Luthor. However, their offer was less than satisfactory.
"WB called my agents Friday afternoon when I was in Florida visiting my grandfather in a nursing home. Their offer: No Script. No idea what I'm doing. No idea when I'm shooting. Basically no money. And the real kick in the ass 'We have to know now,'" Rosenbaum wrote. Not surprisingly, he confirmed that he passed on the opportunity and stated, "I think you can understand why."
It's disappointing to know that Michael Rosenbaum will not be in Crisis on Infinite Earths to reunite with Tom Welling. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean that Lex Luthor will not be a part of the major crossover event. It has been confirmed that Supergirl star Jon Cryer will return as the DC supervillain. Cryer had previously played Lex in the fourth season of the CW series.
In addition to Tom Welling, there will be two other Supermans that will appear in the crossover. Supergirl actor Tyler Hoechlin will play the current Clark Kent while Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh will be pulling double duty as Ray Palmer and Kingdom Come Superman. Batman: The Animated Series voice actor Kevin Conroy is also set to portray an older Bruce Wayne in the event.
Crisis on Infinite Earths will start with the Supergirl Season 5 episode on December 8.
