Is Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry's wife, damaging the royal family? According to a royal critic, she hasn't been making positive impacts during the Sussex royals' tour of South Africa in the last week, and it's making even Prince Harry quite unhappy.
In a post on Twitter, British journalist David Dance posted a photo of Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry during one of their stops at a mosque in Cape Town, South Africa, where the royals are seated on the floor. Duchess Meghan was wearing a hijab while she smiled at their hosts. Prince Harry, on the other hand, was caught by the camera appearing as if he's not quite comfortable.
According to Dance, Duchess Meghan has been embarrassing the royal family with her "ludicrous posing and virtue signaling," as evidenced in the photo. Some royal fans, on the other hand, note that Prince Harry just looks unhappy with his wife beside him.
Dance had an issue with Duchess Meghan wearing a hijab, but some royal watchers pointed out that Queen Elizabeth, Kate Middleton and even Princess Diana covered their heads with scarves when they visited mosques in other countries. One commenter challenged Dance's criticism of Duchess Meghan by saying that, since other royals have shown the same respect, then, how can this be damaging to the royal family?
On the other hand, another commenter said that Duchess Meghan had made Prince Harry into her royal accessory. The Duke of Sussex has served the army and has become quite an exceptional young man only to be reduced as a patsy for someone "visibly browbeating" Prince Harry to be "woke."
Some netizens also said that it was not just in this photo that showed Prince Harry's unhappiness. For them, the Duke of Sussex appeared to be sad the entire time they've been on tour. More than that, the critics said that Prince Harry had lost his spark and charm since getting married.
Meanwhile, despite the criticisms from the British press, a royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Daily Express that Queen Elizabeth may be "delighted" for how their South African tour is turning out. The palace has been pleased with how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made this engagement quite informal but personal, as they danced with the crowd and hugged the people.
Doing things their way and completely out of the norm has been a brilliant move for the Sussex royals that Fitzwilliams is certain that this tour has been a success in Queen Elizabeth's eyes.
