Is Madam Secretary season 6 changing its title to Madam President? When the show opened last Sunday, Oct. 6, on CBS, the title card quickly shifted to reflect a new logo. It was meant to represent the latest position of Elizabeth McCord (played by Tea Leoni) as the Commander in Chief and the main resident at the White House.
It's the first 100 days of the McCord presidency in Madam Secretary season 6. Thus, it only fitted to see Madam President in the title card.
However, sources from the show told TV Line that, despite the opening graphics in the premiere episode, there will be no changes in the show's title. Madam Secretary season 6 will carry on as it is, which incidentally will also be its final season.
Madam Secretary season 6 began two years after the events of last season when Elizabeth announced that she was running for the top position in the American government. The show has skipped with the campaign and the elections, but Leoni told Parade there would be flashbacks to her road to the presidency.
As seen in Madam Secretary season 6 episode 1, there were indeed scenes with Elizabeth and her campaign team discussing who should be her running mate or vice president. Elizabeth wanted Senator Carlos Morejon (played by Jose Zuniga) from a different political party, but Mike (played by Kevin Rahm) was against her choice as Morejon was also on her opponent's list.
At the end of the episode, Elizabeth faced the crowd in another flashback scene to introduce her running mate. Despite saying no to her initially, Morejon agreed to run under her ticket.
But, Elizabeth's presidency is in for more problems in Madam Secretary season 6 as Senator Miller (played by Guy Boyd) has questioned the legitimacy of her win. It comes at a time when the Israeli counterintelligence group found evidence that the Iranians tried to hack into crucial court documents involving Miller's personal life that ruined him with voters.
Allegedly, the Iranians have been targeting Miller because he was a staunch critic of Elizabeth's government. It won't look good for Elizabeth if word gets out that Iran might have something to do with Miller losing the elections, even if she had no hand in their hacking.
Madam Secretary season 6 episode 2 will further probe into Iran's involvement at the senate hearing. The episode will air on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 10:30 p.m.
