Arrow season 8 episode 2 is still a few weeks away, but there's some exciting news within this episode. Titled "Welcome to Hong Kong," the second episode of the series' final run will see the return of Tatsu, a character whom we haven't seen for a long time.
In the synopsis of Arrow season 8 episode 2, Laurel, Oliver, John, and Tatsu will seek out a very important person within The Monitor's plan. The latter character had an important role back in the third season and had a brief cameo in season 5.
Tatsu (played by Rila Fukushima) returns in "Welcome to Hong Kong" because of a very important mission. This particular mission within this episode is also tied to the events in the Crisis On Infinite Earths. Thus, there are a lot of things to anticipate in the series, especially since it's the show's final run.
During the Television Critics Association tour, series star Stephen Amell already teased the return of Tatsu in Arrow. The character, who's also known by the antihero moniker Katana, had a major role in the third installment, and with a few appearances since then.
Tatsu's husband, Maseo, was the handler of Oliver during his time in Hong Kong. At first, she disliked Oliver until he saved her life. Later on, she returned the favor by helping a nearly-dead Oliver and nursed him back to health following his failed duel with Ra's al Ghul.
Eventually, Tatsu killed her husband after he and other League of Assassins' members turned against her. Instead of joining Team Arrow, she chose to return to her life. When the character left the series, there were assumptions she left as she's preparing her way in David Ayer's Suicide Squad.
Tatsu's return in Arrow season 8 episode 2 is just one of several such appearances in the series' final run. Other cast members who are expected to appear are Echo Kellum, Colin Donnell (who played Tommy Merlyn), and Susanna Thompson (who played Moira Queen).
Since this is the final season of the series, it's safe to assume the show is going to take a more secretive approach compared to what long-time fans used to see most of the rest of the Arrowverse. With the finale nearly approaching, it only makes sense for them to be that way.
The series will premiere on Tuesday, October 15, on The CW, while Arrow season 8 episode 2 will air on Tuesday, October 22.
