There have already been speculations that The Matrix 4 would begin production next year and would be released in 2021. However, fans believed that the sequel, which will also bring back Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as Neo and Trinity, will premiere later in the year. Luckily, people won't have to wait until late 2021 for the long-delayed fourth Matrix movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has confirmed that the film will premiere on May 21, 2021.
It's an interesting choice for Warner Bros. considering that there's another major action movie that is already scheduled for release on the same date. Lionsgate has already confirmed that John Wick 4 will premiere in May a long time ago. This means that the two franchises will be fighting for box office dominance in 2021 during the same weekend. However, it appears to be a win-win situation for Keanu Reeves, who will lead both films.
The premise of The Matrix 4 is still a mystery although there are speculations that it will focus on a completely new character played by Watchmen star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Some believe that Mateen will portray a younger Morpheus in the fourth movie. On the other hand, there is a possibility that the character will be a new one who could work with Keanu Reeves' Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss' Trinity.
