Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world when they announced that they would want to step down from being “senior royals” to be away from the limelight and just focus on their son and their charities. The royal couple also shared that they aim to be “financially independent.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have all the right to do anything they want, just as long as it’s not affecting the monarchy and they have Queen Elizabeth’s approval. However, LBC’s Nick Ferrari said that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wish to be “financially independent” is impossible.
“I can’t believe they have walked away. I also can’t see how they are going to be financially independent,” an LBC caller said. “They can’t be. I have been doing some work on this. The Prince of Wales gives his sons 4.9 million pounds. It is thought that William takes a slightly greater share of that. So Harry is in for around two and a quarter million pounds a year,” Ferrari replied.
The British journalist and radio and television presenter pointed out that it would be extremely hard for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to be “financially independent” considering their lavish lifestyle.
“The House they have in Windsor, the cottage, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have is worth around 3.5 million pounds,” he said. “We have already spent 2.4 million pounds in total and there is a bit more to spend so it will be somewhere around three million pounds. The last job Harry had was Lieutenant in the Household Cavalry, which earns £36,000 per year plus he likes private jets. How is he going to pay for it?”
Nick Ferrari, then, noted that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just took a six-week break while the rest of the royal family do all the work. He just can't seem to see the Duke of Sussex’s sense of duty.
“He has just had a six-week break - he still looks very unhappy. Does no duty kick in at all?" he said. "That is the other aspect because they want to live this sort of globetrotting world. This means they will be boarding aircraft, private or otherwise and you and I will be funding Met police detectives to go with them."
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received a lot of criticisms when they took a six-week break and spent the holidays in the U.S. It was the first time that the Duke of Sussex spent Christmas away from the royal family, and a lot of royal fans were disappointed in him especially because his grandparents are not getting any younger and they believe that he should cherish his time with them.
