The iPhone XR returning big sales numbers for Apple came as the glaring proof that the market for an affordable device with a premium build and features can be genuinely lucrative. This gave rise to the speculations that more reasonably priced handsets will come out of Cupertino, and the latest is believed to be the iPhone SE 2.
It will be the follow up to the well-received model that was issued in 2015. The first iPhone SE was essentially the iPhone 5S in build and design only with inside components that were previously used with the iPhone 6S.
It would be unsurprising then the iPhone SE 2 will look familiar when it is unboxed. In fact, it will be modeled after the iPhone 8 but as expected with modernized innards. According to The Daily Mail, the new device will be a doppelganger of the iPhone 8, having a 4.7-inch display screen and a Touch ID sensor that is more of a capacitive button that mimics a physical key.
As mentioned, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone SE 2 will be like twins, but on closer look, the latter will be a little thicker, likely because of a bigger battery, although the exact rating is yet to be determined.
On the backplate, a glass material will remain in use, but the finish will be quite different. The iPhone 8 came out with a glossy look and feel, but for the SE 2, it will be a frosted glass that Apple fans first saw with the iPhone 11 Pro.
Still, on the rear section, would-be buyers will find a single-sensor shooter, which should explain why the iPhone SE 2 will be the most affordable of Apple's latest iPhone offerings. It remains to be confirmed, but the supposed starting price for the device is said to be $399, which is the same starting point for the original edition.
If one would consider that the SE 2 will be powered by the A13 Bionic mobile processor, then the selling price, which is not exactly cheap, seems justified. It is still unknown what the memory specs will be provided by Apple, but a safe bet on the configuration would be 3GB RAM and 64GB on the internal storage.
This particular iPhone model was the subject of the recent forecast notes shared by Ming-chi Kuo, a known Apple-focused analyst, and he claimed that the device will hit the market ahead of the 2020 iPhone releases from Apple. The touchdown is likely in the early part of the year, with March seen as the earliest time of arrival.
Finally, 9to5Mac said, the iPhone SE 2 will make way for the iPhone 9 as the handset's official name, which makes sense as the specs and features of the device represented a cross between the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X.
