Search engine giant Google might be looking into releasing three mid-range Pixel 4s. Three code names potentially referring to Google's low-cost smartphones were found by XDA Developers. Based on the recent discovery, the search engine giant might release a couple of Pixel 4a models and another with 5G support.
Google Pixel 4a Redfin
The code name Redfin is reportedly developed on sm7250 and Android 10. It is worth mentioning that the sm7250 refers to Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 mobile platform. Since this System On Chip (SoC) comes with a 5G modem, it would presumably the Pixel 4a model with 5G support. The device is being manufactured by the Foxconn subsidiary FIH Mobile ODM.
Google Pixel 4a Bramble
The code name Bramble was previously thought to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 mobile platform. But, it appears that it runs on Linux kernel version 4.19. In other words, it is not a Qualcomm SoC.
The sm7250 also runs on Linux kernel version 4.19, which could mean it could have the same Snapdragon 765 mobile platform as the Redfin. The device is being developed on Android and Android 11, according to reports. Between Bramble and Redfin, one of them could be a development board while the other could be released as a commercial device.
Google Pixel 4a Sunfish
The code name Sunfish discovered in the repository of AOSP is based on sm7150. The device could be the regular Pixel 4a, according to GizmoChina. Based on the code, Sunfish uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 730.
It means that the device can only connect to 4G wireless network connectivity. The Snapdragon 730 is the same SoC that powers both Xiaomi Redmi K30 and Xiaomi Realme X2. Not much is known about the upcoming smartphones.
The newly discovered codes do not explicitly mention Pixel 4a or make reference to a Google smartphone. However, if the code names really refer to Google Pixel 4a devices, we already have an idea of what it would look like. Thanks to 91mobiles, we now have a CAD render of the Google Pixel 4a.
The only solid link that we could connect to the recently discovered code names is Google's penchant for using fish names as its codes. Additionally, earlier reports revealed the same code names in a string in the Google app. However, we suggest not to get too excited about these details since these just code names. The code names could be future Google Pixel 4a devices. It could also be prototypes made by the company for its labs.
