The next flagship killer release is rumored to include wireless charging capabilities finally. That will be for the OnePlus 8, which according to the latest leaks will include a new feature that will allow juicing up wired-free and possibly at a relatively fast rate.

The expectation that a OnePlus handset model can be charged wirelessly first surfaced with the OnePlus 6 release because of the device's backplate that was made of glass material. The feature, however, was bypassed by the China-based device maker, and the OnePlus 7T came out last year, and it remained unavailable.

It is likely that wireless charging will be packed with OnePlus 8 push as Android Police reported that there are credible details coming out that pointed to such a scenario.

The most recent of these indicators is OnePlus' decision to join the Wireless Power Consortium finally. In the past, membership with WPC normally signaled the imminent release of devices from a vendor with features related to wireless functionalities. So this constitutes one exciting clue for loyal OnePlus fans that have been anticipating the feature for some time.

Add to that was the recent concept shared by gadget tipster Max J., and the same report said this leaker has a credible record of forecasting new features for planed device releases. His voice now part of the conversation should give a higher chance of wireless charging for the OnePlus 8 becoming a reality.

However, the final word on the matter actually rests on OnePlus, and to date, the company has not shared even a hint that its next release can be juiced up wirelessly and possibly faster than what was seen with the competition.

If anything, the last word from the company on the subject was from OnePlus CEO Pete Lau. In early 2019, Lau explained the reason why the latest models of OnePlus handsets were without wireless charging feature, WCCFTech reported.

According to him, the capability is not yet in the advanced stage, so OnePlus decided to hold out a little more.

That was last year, and the technology has made significant gains. In fact, rivals are already working on wireless and quick charging in a single package. This was introduced by Huawei with the Mate 30 Pro that supports fast charging of up to 27W with no wires at all.

In addition, the same report said Oppo is believed close to introducing a handset model that can be charged up wirelessly at 30W. Notably, this will be accomplished a year after Oppo's enlisting with WPC.

These patterns set the stage for OnePlus to finally deliver on what has been long-clamored by fans. It should be noted though that the OnePlus 8 release details are yet to be announced, but the debut can be expected between May and June 2020.
