RM is not only the leader of BTS, but he is also the official English translator of the group. Although Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook have been learning to speak the language, they usually reply in Korean during interviews.
While RM is very much aware of how his members have improved in English, he wasn't ready when Jungkook responded to the question with English slang. It seems like the tables have turned, and it's now the maknae teaching the BTS leader a new foreign word.
BTS had an interview with Access during the promotions for Map of the Soul: 7. RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook answered a couple of questions in English and Korean.
But when the interviewer asked the BTS boys what their favorite English words were, Jungkook surprised RM with his answer. The 22-year-old singer, songwriter, and record producer proudly responded, "brekkie."
Not knowing what it was, RM looked confused and wondered if he misheard Jungkook's answer. In a shocking turn of event, the BTS maknae translated the English word to Korean for RM. But the interviewer knew exactly what he meant and said, "breakfast." A very proud Jungkook then pointed and winked at her.
“Do we call breakfast as brekkie?” RM asked. “I thought it was ‘Becky,’ like ‘Becky G.’” (Watch the video here).
Jungkook is one of the BTS members who is getting a lot better in English. Just like the golden maknae, J-Hope is also improving his English game.
J-Hope couldn't take seeing his fellow 94-liner taking all the pressure, and he had been very vocal of wanting to help the BTS leader during interviews. While the 26-year-old rapper, songwriter, dancer, and record producer can speak Chinese and Japanese quite fluently, he initially had a hard time with English.
Although Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungook spoke in English in the past, they usually rehearsed their lines. And most of the time, they answer in just one word or broken English.
This time, however, J-Hope didn't only speak in fluent English, but he understood the questions without RM's translations. This goes to show that he worked so hard to be good at the language, especially because his main goal was to help RM during English interviews.
RM previously said that he considers J-Hope to be the second leader of BTS. Now, we know why.
