Apple is one of the tech companies that first tasted the ill effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cupertino tech giant sent food packs, thermal scanners, and even iPads to its stranded employees in China. With the COVID-19 rapidly spreading in the US, Apple sources 20 million face masks, and even designs face shields as its way of helping the medical workers not only in the country but also in other parts of the world.

Apple Raises And Donates Over 20M Face Masks

Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook recently shared that the Cupertino tech juggernaut is designing its own face shield apart from donating 10 million face masks in the US and Europe. Surprisingly, the 10 million face masks were initial donation as the Apple CEO announced that the numbers have climbed up to more than 20 million. Cook calls the company's effort a global effort to back the heroic medical frontliners.

He added that the company with collaborating with governments to make sure that the much-needed medical supplies reached those who are in greatest need. The Apple CEO made the announcement on Twitter and revealed that the company is concentrating on unique means to help in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the rising number of COVID-19 infected cases in the US, Apple, according to Cook, could help by helping meet the "Scale the circumstances require."

Apple Designs And Donates Face Shields

Apart from the face masks, the Cupertino tech giant is currently tapping its supply chain to design and produce face shields. The effort is company-wide, according to Cook and Apple's engineers, designers, production, and packaging team are all involved in the project to provide medical professionals' much-needed shield.

The Apple CEO shared the Apple face shield in the video, which comes with a clear protective visor. Cook said that the first shipment was given to Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara in California. He added that the feedback from the recipients has been very positive so far. Apple is using manufacturing materials from China and the US for the face shields.

Tim Cook also revealed that the Cupertino based tech titan intends to ship more than a million face shields by the end of this week and another 1 million more a week after. Aside from Apple, other industry giants are rising up to the challenge. Tesla is making ventilators for the US and other parts of the world while Dyson in the UK is currently producing 10,000 ventilators for the government.
